supplies
question- I purchased this pattern. It has a list at the end of the booklet of the floss colors needed. Unfortunately it does not say how many threads of each color to purchase. And it says it is a black and white picture but there are actually 24 colors. I want to order the floss but do not know how much of each to purchase -- HELP

Hi there

I had bought one of the needlepoint while I was in France and it said the number of skein required

But I had never had seem or found any book or booklet on cross stitch that say how many skein to

have in USA in 40 years I don't know why don't they say the list the no. of skeins?

It says it is a black and white picture. What that means is the pattern is a black and white pattern. As far as how many skeins you need to purchase my rule of thumb is if it doesn't say I always buy 2 skeins of each DMC color to start. I know a lot of patterns don't tell you how much you need. It all depends on whether you use 2 strands or 3 strands when you are stitching and the count of the fabric you are using. A lot of stitchers change the size of the patterns they do. I have done that a lot. Hope this helps.

Looks grim. I don't think that I could stitch it. I always buy two or three skeins. After a while you build up a stash and then you can go to it if you didn't purchase enough at the outset. Several years ago I bought every color that DMC offered and now I add as new colors come out. It seemed that every time I wanted to start a project I was short at least one color, usually the one I needed to shart with.

No kidding! It made NO difference if I had all the DMC colors, it never failed that the exact center of a design was the color that I had used up and forgot to replace because, even in retirement, stitching time for me is based on too many variables. I have directions somewhere about how to calculate amount of thread needed for different sized stitching, but I cannot lay my hands on it. Of course!
