So gorgeous
Update Dec 2023
When I became a grandma 6 years ago, I stitched it again (twice!). Mine hangs in the hallway by my bedroom. The other one was to my daughter-in-law's parents in the USA. He was the first grandchild for all of us. Stitched othin the original design colour scheme of predominantly blue.
I originally planned to use DMC threads to stitch this, but on receiving the pattern, discovered that not all the DMC colours were suggested and a couple of others duplicated each other. Shade numbers for all the colours were given in Anchor colours (which is what the designer originally made it in, so I found out after contacting her via email). So I ended up stitching it in a combination of DMC & Anchor (for the unlisted DMC colours). I was making this as a gift for friends who had become grandparents to a beautiful little girl, then realized the predominant colour was blue, so swapped the lettering and the inner row on the border to one of the suggested pinks, based on the corresponding shade of blue; be it medium, medium light or whatever. I also changed 'Grandmother' to 'Grandparent' and put both the grandfather and grandmother's names on it. Also as they are Maori, instead of 'grandchild', I put 'mokopuna' which is the Maori word for grandchild. I am absolutely thrilled at how it has turned out. It took me about 2 weeks to stitch, so a relatively quick project to do. I always add my name and the month & year it was made on the bottom right hand corner to all my projects. Just as an artist always signs their paintings.
