Did this angel on 28 count linen. Just finishing with the Kreinek thread on her white gown. Would consider this for intermediate to advanced stitcher, but would not discourage a beginner stitcher wanting to do an L & L design. The L & L "Angel of Freedom" is a beautiful 'companion' piece. Saw picture of stitcher who had both projects completed and framed in her hallway. Beautiful!

I didn't use the fabric they picked; I ended up doing the pattern in a grayish 18 count Aida fabric, and it turned out beautifully. I had never tackled a huge pattern before, and this took me five years of on and off work, but it is a true heirloom piece and I absolutely love it.

I have this pattern and plan on completing it, but didn't like either the linen or sage color for the background. Thanks for the suggestion of the gray - I think it is a better color. I will definitely try that color!

I did this one several years ago. It's absolutely beautiful--and not as fru-fruy as her later ones with all the beads and metalics. I did it on a med gray background. It made it look like dusk.

Doing backstitching on this pattern
Hello everyone,
I'm finishing up the Lavender and Lace "Angel of Light" and have question regarding the backstitching that needs to be done below the "village" and below and behind the angel's dress in the pattern. The backstitching is by itself on the linen (isn't supported by other stitches against it). Some of the backstitching is going over 14-16 squares or more on the 28-count linen. I'm concerned that if I make one long stitch covering that many squares, when it comes time for framing, there will either be a problem with the thread being stretched too tight or too loose.
Is there a rule on not going over a certain amount of squares when backstitching?
