After I put fresh water in the birdbath, I had the water nozzle on jet. I was spraying a tree as I was walking back toward the spigot. I saw something flying that I thought was a butterfly, and I stopped walking. A hummingbird had flown into the mist the breeze was creating. I released the handle in order to move the dial to shower. The hummingbird flew away. I wanted him to return so I stood there for awhile with the softer shower water spraying the ground. He came back. He hovered in the mist two feet away. He flew lower, and I watched him drink water off a blade of grass. To my surprise, he got on the ground where a small puddle of water had collected and took a bath! He perched on a nearby branch and preened his feathers. I kept the water going in case he came back. He flew away. I was amazed that he was not afraid of me!
I was using both hands to squeeze the handle while staying very still, and I couldn't reach for my phone. This is what he looked like. The 2nd picture shows the sprayer I used.
