Hurricane Helene relief
For reliable information, and to get the truth about relief misinformation, FEMA has set up a rumor response page online. There is also a number to call if you have questions. The amount of political disinformation being spread is causing even more anxiety and anger for people going through the most horrific time of their lives. For instance, the $750 is an immediate relief payment, not the only funding they will receive. It gets people necessities in the immediate post disaster period . There will be more funding to follow,as needed. They need help, not more loss of control. Keeping all those affected in prayer.❤️

Jonnie W: Do You Take Anything to Sleep?
Have y'all ever seen this guy? He is hilarious. Very short clips on You Tube. Always clean and just plain funny. He's from TN. He has one about the "hoodie with shorts guy" about men in Wisconsin. So funny. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/C0VxFlqO1wI

Rumors VS Facts - FEMA/Hurricane Helene
I thought I'd address the rumors listed on FEMA's website in relation to what has been said/posted in this chat room in the last few days regarding assistance to Hurricane Helene victims because the implication has been that my comments have been incorrect and meant to stir up emotions and politically motivated. As I said in one of my previous posts on Susan's daily, I'd have the same criticisms if there was a Republican in the Oval Office and this lack of response and assistance. I've been through too many of these storms and a couple of devastating floods in a small town where I lived. I've seen FEMA. the Small Business Adminsitration and other agencies in action. My own comments will follow each rumor/fact in parentheses. (https://www.fema.gov/press-release/20241004/fema-launches-web-page-respond-rumors-and-confirm-facts-related-hurricane) ---------------------------------------
Rumor: FEMA does not have enough money to provide disaster assistance for Helene.
Fact: This is false. FEMA has enough money for immediate response and recovery needs. If you were affected by Helene, do not hesitate to apply for disaster assistance as there is a variety of help available for different needs. FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund has enough funding to support Hurricane Helene efforts and FEMA has what it needs for immediate response and recovery efforts. As FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell has said, she has the full authority to spend against the President’s budget, but we’re not out of hurricane season yet so we need to keep a close eye on it.
( Note it says FEMA has enough money for "immediate" needs twice. I said in Susan's daily post that Secretary Mayorkas said FEMA didn't have enough funds to last THROUGH THE HURRICANE SEASON because he did. Came directly out of his mouth when being interviewed. I did NOT say there wouldn't be enough funds for Hurricane Helene victims. The hurricane season isn't over unfortunately. As we speak, there is another storm brewing in the Gulf of Mexico and is predicted to head towards northern FL again.)
Rumor: FEMA will ONLY provide $750 to disaster survivors to support their recovery.
Fact: This is false. This is a type of assistance that you may be approved for soon after you apply, called Serious Needs Assistance. It is an upfront, flexible payment to help cover essential items like food, water, baby formula, breastfeeding supplies, medication and other emergency supplies. There are other forms of assistance that you may qualify for to receive and Serious Needs Assistance is an initial payment you may receive while FEMA assesses your eligibility for additional funds. As your application continues to be reviewed, you may still receive additional forms of assistance for other needs such as support for temporary housing, personal property and home repair costs. If you have questions about your disaster assistance application and what you qualify for, contact us at 1-800-621-3362 to speak with a FEMA representative in your language.
(I NEVER said that $750 was the ONLY money being provided for the hurricane victims. I said it's not enough in today's economy for the simplest supplies to be provided for a family. Especially if they're trying to find lodging too. I also know from past experience that it takes time to apply and receive other funds, whether from FEMA or the SBA or another federal agency. Many of these people can't wait and they have no access to a computer to apply. I KNOW what it's like to feel, and be, cut off from the world during a disaster when you have no way of knowing what's going on and when, or if, help will arrive.)
Rumor: FEMA is asking for cash donations and turning away volunteers.
Fact: This is false. FEMA does not ask for or accept any cash donations or volunteers. We encourage people who want to help to volunteer with or donate cash to reputable voluntary or charitable organizations. After a disaster, sending cash to reputable voluntary organizations is often the best way to help as it provides the greatest flexibility for these organizations working on the ground to purchase exactly what is needed. To get in touch with a volunteer organization involved in Hurricane Helene response, visit www.nvoad.org.
If you encounter someone claiming to represent FEMA and asking for donations, be careful as that is likely a scam. Government employees are not authorized to solicit money or donations.
(I never said anything about this at all and have heard nothing to this point.)
Rumor: Funding for FEMA disaster response was diverted to support international efforts or border-related issues.
Fact: This is false. No money is being diverted from disaster response needs. FEMA’s disaster response efforts and individual assistance is funded through the Disaster Relief Fund, which is a dedicated fund for disaster efforts. Disaster Relief Fund money has not been diverted to other non-disaster related efforts. The funding for communities to support migrants is appropriated by Congress to Customs and Border Patrol – it has nothing to do with FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund.
(I didn't say funds for Hurricane Helene were being diverted for illegals. I said that funds had previously been used to provide housing and other services for them, which now means FEMA is short of funds for the entire hurricane season, as Mayorkas has admitted. I also said that FEMA isn't rushing in to provide housing for the hurricane victims, I haven't seen any evidence of them putting the hurricane victims up in nice hotels, as they have with the illegals.)
Rumor: FEMA is confiscating donations meant for survivors.
Fact: This is false. FEMA does not take donations and/or food from survivors or voluntary organizations. Donations of food, water, or other goods are handled by voluntary agencies who specialize in storing, sorting, cleaning and distributing donated items.
(I've heard nothing about this and made no comments regarding this.) ----------------------------------------------------------- All of my comments have been based on interviews with Secretary Mayorkas and actual victims who are experiencing this tragedy, not on some federal government website that has an agenda of its own. As I've always said, you can quote me on anything I've said, as long as you quote it correctly. It truly amazes me that some people in this chat room will take this tragedy and turn it into some kind of personal vendetta, regardless of what they say otherwise. They think they need to post information for us Americans who apparently don't have the wherewithal to find it ourselves, just to set us straight and be sure that we Americans know the facts of the situation happening here in our own country. Wonder how they would have felt if we had posted info for Canadians when they were going through the wildfires last year, just to be sure they understood the FACTS. We had more respect for them than they apparently have for us.

GOOD MORNING - What's on your mind SATURDAY
Good Saturday morning everyone. The nip of fall is definitely in the air this morning. Today a guy is coming over to take two of the aquariums plus fish and now we'll be down to only two. We are seriously downsizing, simplifying even more, and getting ready for winter. It will be a day after chores of knitting and cross stitch. Have a good Saturday.

Gridding marathon
I was unsure of my next project. I bought a new pattern! Wasn’t supposed to buy any more. That started it all while I wait for it to arrive. Any one else pregrid? If I don’t it delays me starting something. I’m not fond of gridding but I love not counting so much. I’m finishing half started ones even!
