Material for Critter Bookmarks

I think these are cute-but have one question. I've looked at the list of supplies needed to make them. While the colors of floss that you need are listed, one thing is missing and is extremely important. Exactly what material is needed to complete the bookmarks???? Aida cloth, plastic canvas ?? What would you use?
