Fall Basketa Cross Stitch Pattern by Imaginating

I do not cross stitch, so what basic needles, etc would my daughter need? (I'm a quilter.)

My daughter, who is a middle aged working adult, would like to learn to cross stitch as an evening activity to do when she sits with her husband who likes to watch sports. they have no children. She works in educational administration, so this would be a total change of pace, and hopefully relaxing handwork. She does like math! She loves sunflowers, too. How difficult would this be for a first project? I'm thinking of getting it for her for Christmas.
