Counted cross stitch is fun to do and keeps your mind active.
Can't think of anything that I dislike about these projects. I enjoy doing them for myself and for family as gifts. Have a number of family members, their friends and my friends that after seeing the finished product ask me to make one fir them.
I've been doing this for over 30 years. Have made wedding announcements, baby announcements, graduation announcements, and ones for every holiday of the year.
I find it relaxing.
So if you're just a beginner I suggest to get a pattern that is small and simple. Even a kit would be great because you get the pattern and floss and sometimes the cross stitch fabric for a cheaper price.
The smaller projects depending on hiw much time you have to work on it will take about a week or two. I have done some really big ones that have taken me 6 months or more. But these are 16" x 18" up to 24" x 32" and very detailed.
I never mat or frame these myself. I found that any Michael's store can do a very professional job. I've never been disappointed in any of them. They are also very helpful in helping you to pick the perfect mat, glass and frame.
So go for it and have fun.
