Liberty Drum and Pincushion is a prim, sampler-inspired patriotic design which also honors the French aspirations of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. The centerpiece of the drum design is a tree taken from my Louise Chappuis 1844 French reproduction sampler, but here, it's topped by two eagles,
centered under the word Liberty. Bunting decorates the top border of the drum and surrounds the quatrefoil design on the pincushion.
The model is stitched on 40 CT Winter Brew R&R Reproductions using the called for overdyed cotton floss. My thanks go to Shawn LaFleur for her beautiful and fast
stitching of the models.
Alternative fabrics: I believe this piece will work well on a wide range of colors, from pale blues and greens to other neutrals or greys. It would also be pretty with a more rustic look on browns or tans. As always, if in doubt, do small floss swatches on the fabric to check that all flosses are visible.
